The General Assembly<\/h2>\n
\n\n\n\n

The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations. All 193 Member States are represented in it, each with a single vote, the only United Nations body in which every Member State sits on an equal footing. It works in plenary and through six Main Committees, and takes decisions on questions of peace and security, the admission of new members, the budget of the Organization and the full range of issues covered by the Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eighty-first session opens on 8 September 2026<\/strong>. The President presides over the plenary work of the Assembly for the year: convening and chairing its meetings, guiding negotiations and consultations among Member States, and representing the Assembly.
