WHAT:

With millions of people still lacking access to essential services like education, healthcare, food, social protection, and digital technology, the 62nd session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Commission for Social Development (CSocD62) on 5 to 14 February in New York will seek concrete measures and innovative solutions to promote social justice and digital transformation for everyone, critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year¡¯s Commission takes place at a time when the richest 10 per cent of the world’s population receives 52 per cent of the total income, while more than 600 million people live in extreme poverty. Approximately 57 per cent of the global population ¡ª equivalent to 4.5 billion people ¡ª do not have access to essential health services and around one-third of the global population, or 2.6 billion people, are not connected to the internet. To ensure that no one is left behind, governments must implement inclusive social policies and prioritize efforts to eliminate poverty, bridge the digital divide and promote social justice.

Under the theme, ¡°Fostering social development and social justice through social policies to accelerate progress on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to achieve the overarching goal of poverty eradication,¡± the Commission will host six high-level panel discussions, including one on the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family. There will be more than 50 side events.

WHEN:???? 5-14 February 2024, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST
