Launching a new\u00a0plan<\/a>\u00a0to counter the potentially devastating socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on 31 March, the Secretary-General\u00a0called for an urgent and coordinated response<\/a>\u00a0that focuses on the health emergency as well as addresses the devastating social and economic dimensions of the crisis with an aim to build more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything we do during and after this crisis must be with a strong focus on building more equal, inclusive and sustainable economies and societies that are more resilient in the face of pandemics, climate change, and the many other global challenges we face,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Projections show that there could be up to 25 million job cuts jobs globally (ILO) and up to $3.4 trillion losses in labour income (ILO). There could be a 30 to 40 per cent decline in global foreign direct investment flows (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵTACD). An estimated 1.5 billion students are now out of school (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO) and children have lost access to school meal programmes.<\/p>\n The\u00a0World Health Organization (WHO)<\/strong><\/span>, the agency leading the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ response, offers a variety of important resources to address and cope with the crisis, including a\u00a0COVID-19 website<\/a>,\u00a0a\u00a0dedicated multilingual messaging service<\/a>\u00a0using WhatsApp, a Solidarity Response Fund<\/a>, advice for the\u00a0public<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0parents<\/a>\u00a0as well as a series of\u00a0myth busters.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n April’s edition of Goal of the Month<\/strong><\/span>, which focuses on Good Health and Well-being<\/a>, looks into\u00a0COVID-19\u2019s impact on the different aspects of the development agenda \u2014 economic, social and environmental.
