<\/span><\/span>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary General Convenes Event at 77th Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA on Ending the COVID-19 Pandemic Through Equitable Access to Vaccines, Tests and Treatments<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary General will host a high<\/span>–<\/span>level event on Friday 23<\/span>rd<\/span> September 2022 on \u2018<\/span>Ending the COVID<\/span>–<\/span>19 pandemic through equitable access to vaccines, tests and<\/span> treatments<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Together with WHO, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF and the ACT<\/span>–<\/span>Accelerator partnership, he will convene world leaders, country\u00a0<\/span>stakeholders, global health agencies, civil society and industry to discuss the need for continued political\u00a0<\/span>support for equitable access to COVID<\/span>–<\/span>19 vacc<\/span>ines, tests and treatments.<\/span><\/span><\/span>

Despite the progress that has been made in supporting countries to increase their vaccination rates, boost\u00a0<\/span>testing and sequencing, and facilitate access to treatments, just<\/span> 19%<\/span> of people in low<\/span>–<\/span>income countries are\u00a0<\/span>fully vaccin<\/span>ated<\/span>, compared to 75% in high<\/span>–<\/span>income countries<\/span>, testing rates have declined globally, and access\u00a0<\/span>to new antivirals<\/span> in low and lower<\/span>–<\/span>middle income countries remains limited.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
At<\/span> the<\/span> third Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵGA<\/span> to take place during<\/span> the COVID<\/span>–<\/span>19 pandemic,<\/span> the<\/span> Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ<\/span> Secretary Ge<\/span>neral<\/span> will urge leaders\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span> continue<\/span> supporting<\/span> countries<\/span> to integrate the management of COVID<\/span>–<\/span>19 into their health systems<\/span> and\u00a0<\/span>ensure equitable access for all to the tools needed to<\/span> end the pandemic.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

He<\/span> will be joined by the WHO Director<\/span>–<\/span>General Dr<\/span> T<\/span>edros<\/span> A<\/span>dhanom<\/span> G<\/span>hebreyesus<\/span>, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF Executive\u00a0<\/span>Director Catherine Russell and the Deputy Secretary<\/span>–<\/span>General<\/span> Amina J. Mohammed<\/span>, among other guests.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

This<\/span> event<\/span> will<\/span><\/span> take place on<\/span> 23 September 2022 from 3:00<\/span>–<\/span>4:30pm EST at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵHQ<\/span> in<\/span> Conference Room 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
