WHAT<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rising cost of living and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on livelihoods have exacerbated inequalities in the labor market. The 61st<\/sup> session of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Commission for Social Development, <\/strong>from 6 to 15 February at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Headquarters in New York, will determine concrete measures for fostering full, productive and decent employment for all, as underpinned in Sustainable Development Goal 8<\/a>.<\/p>\n

70 per cent of the world’s people live in countries where income inequality has risen since 1990. Over 2 billion workers around the world are in the informal economy and lack access to social protection. Moreover, with slow economic recovery in emerging markets and developing economies expected to further widen inequalities between countries, effective policies and strategies must be put in place to create jobs and stimulate growth.<\/p>\n

The Commission will host six high-level panel discussions, including the fourth global review of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing<\/a>.\u00a0 More than 50 side events<\/a> have been organized that will focus on employment, social protection and other relevant areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cCreating full and productive employment and decent work for all as a way\u00a0of overcoming inequalities to accelerate the recovery from the COVID-19\u00a0pandemic and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable\u00a0Development.\u201d<\/p>\n
