According to the 2022 Sustainable Development Goals Report, the proportion of the global population using safely managed drinking water services increased from 70 per cent in 2015 to 74 per cent in 2020. However, approximately 2 billion people were without services that year, placing all other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> in jeopardy.<\/p>\n<p>The main outcome of the Conference will be <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/conferences\/water2023\/action-agenda\">the Water Action Agenda<\/a> \u2013 a series of bold commitments made by governments, businesses and communities to meet the global water and sanitation related goals and targets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Briefing on the World Water Development Report (21 March)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There will be an embargoed Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ HQ press briefing on the 2023 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ World Water Development Report (WWDR) on 21 March. The WWDR is Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-Water\u2019s flagship report on water and sanitation issues and focuses on a different theme each year. The WWDR is published by Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµESCO on behalf of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-Water.<\/p>\n<p>During the conference, in addition to six plenary sessions, there will be five interactive dialogues: 1) <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/23-00148%20Concept%20Paper%20Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµWC_ID1_Website.pdf\">Water for Health<\/a>; 2) <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/23-00159%20Concept%20Paper%20Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµWC_ID2_Website.pdf\">Water for Sustainable Development<\/a>; 3) <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/23-00148%20Concept%20Paper%20Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµWC_ID3_Website.pdf\">Water for Climate, Resilience and Environment;<\/a> 4) <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/23-00148%20Concept%20Paper%20Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµWC_ID4_Website.pdf\">Water for Cooperation<\/a> and 5) <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-01\/23-00148%20Concept%20paper%20Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµWC_ID5_Website.pdf\">Water Action Decade<\/a>. The official programme will be accompanied by four special events.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Four Special Events<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/conferences\/water2023\/events\/informal-special-event-radical-collaboration-water-resilience\"><strong>Radical Collaboration for Water Resilience: Action with our greatest Allies in the Climate Crisis<\/strong><\/a><strong>(Wednesday 22 March)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This event will explore how we need to rethink collaboration with our greatest allies in the climate crisis, if we\u2019re going to achieve water resilience for all.\u202f Action is needed on the ground, and local communities and indigenous peoples hold the key to making that a reality.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/conferences\/water2023\/events\/Reducing-inequalities%E2%80%93implementing-Human-Rights\"><strong>Reducing Inequalities \u2013 implementing Human Rights<\/strong><\/a><strong> (Thursday 23 March)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This event aims to put equality and human rights at the centre of the agenda addressing the global water crisis.
