  {"id":14547,"date":"2016-01-14T13:37:26","date_gmt":"2016-01-14T13:37:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=14547"},"modified":"2018-04-22T12:01:55","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T16:01:55","slug":"wfp-boosts-efforts-to-end-hunger-by-2030-with-indian-partnerships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2016\/01\/wfp-boosts-efforts-to-end-hunger-by-2030-with-indian-partnerships\/","title":{"rendered":"WFP boosts efforts to end hunger by 2030 with Indian partnerships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ World Food Programme (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfp.org\/\">WFP<\/a>) is promoting agreements with the Indian Government and business sector to boost nutrition in the world\u2019s second most populous country, with 1.3 billion people, a vital step in eradicating global hunger by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work done in India is critical to achieving Zero Hunger globally by 2030,\u201d WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfp.org\/news\/news-release\/wfp-executive-director-ends-trip-strengthening-partnerships-india\">said<\/a> today at the end of a three-day visit to India, referring to one of the major goals of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/post2015\/transformingourworld\">2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development<\/a>, adopted unanimously by 193 Heads of State and other top leaders at a summit at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Headquarters in New York in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWFP supports the government with its global expertise and innovative solutions to boost food and nutrition security,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>During her visit, Ms. Cousins signed a letter of intent with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution which will bring together several ministries with the WFP to finalize a proposal for establishing a Centre of Excellence on Food and Nutrition Security in India.<\/p>\n<p>She also met business leaders to further partnerships between the business community and WFP to address malnutrition and food insecurity in India, underscoring the role of the private sector in achieving the Agenda goals through their expertise and funding.<\/p>\n<p>WFP in India supports the central and state governments in the effective and efficient implementation of the National Food Security Act and in enhancing nutrition.
