As the\u00a0Paris Agreement<\/a>\u00a0on climate change is about to enter into force on 4 November 2016, don’t miss the opportunity to discuss climate change resilience and how this can help reduce inequalities in the world, in a Facebook chat on 3 November from 10-11 a.m. EDT.<\/p>\n

Lenni Montiel, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Department of Economic and Social Affairs (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ DESA) and the team of authors behind the World Economic and Social Survey 2016: \u201cClimate Change Resilience \u2013 An opportunity for reducing inequalities,\u201d will be on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ DESA\u2019s Facebook page<\/a> to discuss the findings of this survey and answer questions from the online community.<\/p>\n

According to the survey, evidence is increasing that climate change is taking the largest toll on poor and vulnerable people, and these impacts are largely caused by inequalities that increase the risks from climate hazards.<\/p>\n

– Find out how governments can play a vital role in reducing the risks of climate change to vulnerable populations;
\n– Deepen your understanding about the links between climate and development;
\n– Learn what type of policies would address root causes of inequalities and build climate change resilience.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuilding resilience to climate change provides an opportunity to pay extra attention and allocate additional resources to reduce inequalities once and for all,\u201d Mr. Montiel said ahead of the event. \u201cMaking communities resilient to climate change will therefore make sure we achieve all of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.\u201d<\/p>\n
