  {"id":42811,"date":"2017-11-25T15:43:34","date_gmt":"2017-11-25T15:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/?p=42811"},"modified":"2018-04-22T11:47:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-22T15:47:47","slug":"no-man-will-reach-full-potential-unless-women-reach-un-says-day-eliminating-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/blog\/2017\/11\/no-man-will-reach-full-potential-unless-women-reach-un-says-day-eliminating-violence\/","title":{"rendered":"No man will reach full potential unless women reach theirs, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ says on Day of Eliminating Violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>Unless the international community tackles violence against women, the world will not eradicate poverty or reach any of the other Sustainable Development Goals,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\">Secretary-General<\/a>\u00a0Ant\u00f3nio Guterres said in his message today for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time to further our collective action to end violence against women and girls for good,\u201d the Secretary-General\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2017-11-25\/secretary-generals-message-international-day-elimination-violence\">said<\/a>\u00a0marking the Day, which on 25 November, highlights that around the world, more than 1 in 3 women in their lives have experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or both.<\/p>\n<p>The Day also spotlights the work of women&#8217;s rights activists, who are being targeted at \u201calarming levels\u201d, and violence against women politicians, which hamper women&#8217;s rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is time for united action from all of us, so that women and girls around the world can live free from harassment, harmful practices, and all other forms of violence,\u201d Mr. Guterres said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Trust Fund to End Violence against women, one of the ways that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ is helping the international community fight this scourge, is a grant system that has given away more than $129 million to groups and individuals supporting women&#8217;s rights.<\/p>\n<p>The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ is also involved in the recently launched &#8216;Spotlight Initiative&#8217; with the European Union to connect Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ efforts with the work of national governments and civil society; and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces Global Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Among other efforts, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ launched a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment and has said that it is committed to continuing the &#8216;Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµiTE to End Violence against Women&#8217;
