The Meritorious Service Cross recognizes exceptional deeds that bring honour to the country, that \u201csets an example for others to follow, improves the quality of life of a community and brings considerable benefit or honour to Canada.\u201d It has been awarded to civilians only 161 times. The prestigious decoration has been awarded to recognize Dr. Murabit\u2019s leadership in women\u2019s inclusion, particularly in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and security.<\/p>\n<p>On the news of this great honour for Dr. Murabit, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed said \u201cAlaa Murabit brings energy, passion, and a fierce commitment to building an equal, just, and peaceful world to her role as an SDG Advocate. Her bold leadership is inspirational; she is at the forefront of the next generation believing in and creating a better future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The official award ceremony will take place in the coming year.
