| The CEIRPP Bureau delegation visited Guyana from 24 to 26 April 2024 to advocate for Palestinian rights amid the Gaza conflict. This visit, led by Chair, Ambassador Cheikh Niang, and accompanied by Bureau Vice Chairs, Ambassador Ernesto Sober¨®n Guzm¨¢n and Minister Riyad Mansour, and Secretary of the Committee, Patrice Chiwota, followed the Security Council’s veto of Palestine’s Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ membership (18 April) and rising violence in Gaza and the West Bank.
On 24 April, Guyana’s President pledged to mobilize regional leaders, including Panama, the upcoming Latin American Security Council member. He reaffirmed Guyana¡¯s commitment to justice, peace, and the two-State solution, highlighting citizen donations of US$530,178 and the government’s US$150,000 contribution to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA. The Bureau thanked Guyana for its support. The Bureau also met with the Prime Minister and other government leaders who reiterated Guyana’s unwavering support for Palestinian rights and independence. The Prime Minister emphasized bipartisan parliamentary support for Palestine. On 25 April, the Bureau met with Parliament, led by the Speaker, confirming bipartisan support for Palestine and shared understanding of the Gaza conflict. They also engaged the CARICOM Secretary-General to promote recognition of Palestine among member states, sharing updates on regional discussions and seeking Secretariat support. The visit concluded with a public forum organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, featuring diplomats from several countries. Discussions covered ceasefire negotiations, aid distribution, and the recognition of Palestine. The forum highlighted Guyana’s strong support for the Palestinian cause. The delegation’s visit received significant media coverage, including a prime-time interview on NCN TV. This underscored the importance of the Palestinian issue in Guyana and the Committee’s efforts to maintain public attention. During the visit, the Bureau Chair distributed Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Exhibit booklets and the Committee¡¯s Legal Study book.
