Letter dated 11 April 1986 from the Secretary-General addressed to the
Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations
As you have requested, your letter of 1 April 1986 has been circulated as an official document of the General Assembly and of the Security Council (A/41/259-S/17963).
I have also brought your letter to the attention of the Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIFIL) and asked for his comments. General Callaghan has informed me that, after a thorough research, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIFIL did not find any evidence to confirm that Katyushas were fired from t:he vicinity of Shaqra. He has also indicated that, after the reported explosion in Kiryat Shemona, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIFIL observed that IDF/SLA personnel carried out a search inside the enclave south of Shaqra and that the IDF liaison officer made no accusation to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIFIL that the firing had taken place from inside the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵIFIL area.
Since you have requested circulation or your letter as an official document of the General Assembly and of the Security Council, I shall arrange for this reply to be circulated in the same manner.
(Signed) Javier PEREZ DE CUELLAR
