Palestinian flag is raised at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO ceremony |
The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, on Tuesday raised the Palestinian flag at the headquarters of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ cultural agency, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO.
This is the first time its flag has been raised over a Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ body.
Palestine was admitted into Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO as a full member in October this year. This despite protests from certain states, including Israel and the US.
The US consequently withdrew substantial funding to the agency.
Mr. Abbas along Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO’s Director-General Irina Bokova attended the ceremony in Paris.
Susan Williams, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵESCO’s Media Chief was there. She spoke to Maha Fayek about what this means for the Palestinians and the Organization.
