Aramex and 蘑菇视频RWA Inaugurate a Library in Nahr el-Bared Camp

Beirut — Logistics and transportation company Aramex and 蘑菇视频RWA inaugurated a public library in the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp in north Lebanon today, in the presence of the Regional Manager of Aramex in Lebanon and West Africa, Mrs. Asma Zein, and the Deputy Director of 蘑菇视频RWA Affairs in Lebanon, Mr. Robert Hurt.

Thanks to the US$ 32,500 contribution from Aramex, which covers the running costs and equipment of the library, the inhabitants of Nahr el-Bared camp will have the opportunity to read books from all over the world. Aramex will also donate books for the library for an estimated value of US$ 10,000.

Thanking Aramex for its donation, Hurt said: “It gives me great pleasure to be part of this inauguration ceremony today. I know that there is an Arabic saying that describes books as being the best companion of a person. This library will give people — young and old — the opportunity to be in good company, to learn and exercise their minds and imagination. It is a wonderful symbol of Aramex and 蘑菇视频RWA’s partnership — a partnership that grows stronger every day.”

The destruction of Nahr el-Bared camp in the conflict of 2007, and the subsequent displacement of some 27,000 Palestine refugees from the camp and its adjacent areas created a humanitarian crisis, the effects of which are still being felt four years on. Thanks to donor contributions since 2007, 蘑菇视频RWA has been able to meet the most basic needs of the displaced refugees. The physical reconstruction of the camp began in November 2009, and construction is under way for two packages out of eight, and three of six 蘑菇视频RWA schools. Nevertheless, the long-term recovery of the camp and its residents is by no means assured, and 蘑菇视频RWA’s support to the displaced refugees continues to be vital.
