Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ MEDIATOR ON PALESTINE PROPOSES

AN ARMED GUARD FOR JERUSALEM

(The following has been received from the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Press Officer with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Mediator in Rhodes)

Count Folke Bernadotte, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Mediator on Palestine, revealed today at a press conference prior to his departure for Tel Aviv, that he had already proposed through the Secretary-General of the United Nations that France, Belgium and the United States — the three members of the Truce Commission — provide a force of 1,000 armed guards for Jerusalem.  Count Bernadotte added that an additional force would be required for Haifa.
