1. 2026 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-OIC Conference on the Question of Jerusalem

On 18 July, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee, in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), convened the 2026 Conference on the Question of Jerusalem in Cairo, Egypt, under the theme ¡°Jerusalem: The Frontline of Displacement and Annexation and the Key to Just and Lasting Peace.¡± It brought together senior government officials, religious leaders, diplomats, United Nations representatives and experts.

Participants addressed the challenges facing Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem and reaffirmed the centrality of the city to the question of Palestine and to achieving a just and lasting peace. Discussions highlighted the need to protect the rights and presence of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, preserve the historic and legal status quo at the Holy Sites and uphold the city¡¯s unique cultural and religious character. Participants also underscored the need for the international community to uphold international law and protect the Palestinian presence in the city. 2. Committee Delegation Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt

On 19 July, the Committee delegation met with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt¡¯s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates. The Committee delegation expressed appreciation for Egypt¡¯s leadership and sustained diplomatic engagement on the question of Palestine, including its central role in mobilizing Arab and international support for a credible path towards the two-State solution. The delegation also reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with Egypt to help translate the outcomes of the 2025 Two-State Solution Conference into sustained diplomatic follow-up at the United Nations, with Member States, regional organizations and international partners.


3. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee Highlights Challenges Facing Palestinians in Jerusalem

On 18 July, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee issued a press release following the 2026 Conference on the Question of Jerusalem in Cairo, Egypt, drawing attention to the grave challenges facing Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, including forced displacement, dispossession, settlement expansion, restrictions on worship and violence.

The press release underscored the urgent need to safeguard Jerusalem, protect its Palestinian presence and preserve its unique cultural, religious and historical character. It also emphasized that measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the city undermine prospects for peace.


4. Committee Delegation Meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

On 19 July, a delegation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee visited the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, Egypt, where it was received by the Secretary-General, Mr. Nabil Fahmy. The meeting was held in the margins of the 2026 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-OIC Jerusalem Conference.

The Committee delegation briefed the Secretary-General on the outcomes of the Conference, including the reaffirmation of the legal and historical status of occupied East Jerusalem and the need for sustained international action to protect the city and address Israeli measures aimed at altering its demographic composition, character and identity. Discussions also focused on maintaining international momentum towards the implementation of the two-State solution, preserving the legal and historical status quo at the Islamic and Christian holy sites and safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the prospects for a just and lasting peace.


5. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee Chair Addresses the Security Council

On 28 July, the Chair of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee addressed the Security Council during its quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question. In his statement, the Chair stressed that the two-State solution must be preserved through action and reaffirmed the need to uphold international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

The Chair highlighted that in Gaza, the ceasefire remained fragile and incomplete, and it had not ended the suffering of civilians. Since the ceasefire was announced, more than one thousand Palestinians have reportedly been killed, and thousands more injured. He also stressed that the unlawful occupation must end and that the Palestinian people must be able to exercise their inalienable rights, including self-determination, independence and return.


6. 430th Committee Meeting: Adoption of 2026 Annual Report

On 2 September 2026, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee held its 430th meeting to discuss the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. The Committee adopted its Annual Report, covering the period from 2 September 2025 to 31 August 2026 and received briefings from Mr. Michel Saad, Deputy Director and Officer-in-Charge of the Crisis Response Division at OCHA on the humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and from Ms. Jehan Salim, National Coordinator of the Palestine Shelter Cluster on the shelter situation in Gaza and the West Bank. The Committee also elected the new Permanent Representative of Malaysia, H.E. Ms. Nadzirah Binti Osman, as Vice-Chair of the Bureau and heard updates from the State of Palestine. Member States reiterated their solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirmed their support for a two-State solution. They also condemned violence against civilians throughout the OPT, including east Jerusalem, and expressed concern over the continuing humanitarian suffering in Gaza.


7. Bureau of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Palestinian Rights Committee holds annual meeting with Secretary-General

The Committee Bureau held its annual meeting with Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Secretary-General Ant¨®nio Guterres on 29 September. Bureau members raised grave concerns about the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and stressed the need to increase international pressure on Israel, particularly regarding Gaza, the West Bank, settlements, and annexation. Participants welcomed recent steps taken by some countries and noted a gradually more favourable international environment for stronger action. They expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General¡¯s leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to Palestinian rights, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ resolutions, and the two-State solution. Members also highlighted the critical humanitarian role of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA and the need for greater international support for its mandate.


8. Publications
