
The Meeting was convened under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and follows the event held in March 2011 at the United Nations Office in Vienna on the same topic. It aimed at raising awareness on the situation of Palestinian political prisoners and at mobilizing the international community to bring this issue to a solution by ensuring the prisoners¡¯ release and reintegration into society.
Participants included 15 invited speakers; representatives of 66 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Member States and Observers from Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America; 6 intergovernmental organizations (AU, Council of Europe, EU, LAS, OIC, PAM), 8 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ system entities (FAO, OHCHR, WFP, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµSCO, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµICEF, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-HABITAT, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµESCO, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµCTAD), ICRC, 15 civil society organizations, and the media.
