Japan Boosts its Support to Palestinian Children Health and Nutrition<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

JERUSALEM, 10 July 2006 – The Government of Japan has committed USD 3.3 million to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF in occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) for vaccines, newborn health and child nutrition. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Japan’s contribution will go towards preserving immunization coverage, promoting consumption of iodized salt, and improving the quality and delivery of newborn care. It was presented to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF in Jerusalem today by Ambassador Jun Yokota.<\/p><\/div>\n

"We are grateful to the Japanese Government for its continued support of children in oPt,” said Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF Special Representative Dan Rohrmann. “These funds will go a long way toward protecting already vulnerable children from preventable sickness and death.” <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Palestinian health system is suffering from a serious funding crisis that is jeopardizing the delivery of basic services. “In this extremely challenging context, the Japanese support is critical to maintaining the routine, basic health services that keep children alive and thriving,” Rohrmann said. <\/p><\/div>\n

At the global level, Japan remains one of the largest contributors to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF. The USD 3.3 million donation is the largest thus far for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵICEF oPt.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
