US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the EU&#39;s High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana will also take part in the talks. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Mr. Annan is also expected to have a series of bilateral meetings on the margins of the all-day conference, before returning to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Headquarters in New York. Earlier this month he travelled to London as part of a European tour to discuss Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ reform and international security issues. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The Secretary-General&#39;s trip occurs as his Deputy, Louise Fr&#233;chette, winds up her visit to the EU today by holding further talks in Brussels with senior officials from the regional organization. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Ms. Fr&#233;chette met with Mr. Solana; Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission; Louis Michel, Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid; Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations; and Franco Frattini, Vice-President and Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">According to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ spokesman Fred Eckhard, their talks focused on the Middle East, Iraq, the Darfur crisis in Sudan, and the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Next week Ms. Fr&#233;chette is scheduled to visit Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, C&#244;te d&#39;Ivoire and Kosovo, where she will meet with senior officials and reinforce Mr. Annan&#39;s zero-tolerance message on sexual exploitation and abuse.
