Sweden Increases its 2008 General Fund Contribution<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Today Sweden announced its 2008 contribution to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA’s General Fund of SEK 252 million (approximately US$ 40 million). This represents an increase of SEK 10 million (US$ 1.5 million) from last year.<\/p><\/div>\n

Sweden is the Agency’s third largest donor. In 2007, it contributed SEK 242 million (US$ 34.3 million) to the General Fund (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA’s regular budget) in addition to SEK 70 million (US$ 10.3 million) for the Agency’s Emergency Appeals. <\/p><\/div>\n

"With this generous contribution", Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA’s Commissioner-General, Karen AbuZayd, noted, "Sweden once again demonstrates its steadfast support for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA and Palestine refugees." She added that "Sweden is an important partner of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA – a strong supporter in terms of financial assistance as well as engagement. Sweden sets a high standard of good donorship and its active support underscores its firm commitment to Palestine refugees."<\/p><\/div>\n
