FINAL MEETING OF THE<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON PALESTINE<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The following is a story on the final meeting in Geneva of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine by the United Nations Press Officer with the Committee:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Special Committee on Palestine completed its mission this evening when, at 11:45 p.m. Geneva Time (6:45 EDT) the eleven delegates signed their <\/span>report<\/a>.  The Report will now be sent to the Governments Members of the United Nations and to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The simple ceremony took place in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Palais des Nations where Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵSCOP has been meeting since its arrival in Geneva on July 26 and where last spring the Balkan Commission also sat.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>After Mr. Nasrollah Entezam of Iran on behalf of the Whole Committee had thanked the Chairman for his contribution to the success of the Committee's work the Chairman, Mr. Emil Sandstrom of Sweden invited the delegates to follow him in appending their signatures to the Report.  The delegates signed in alphabetical order.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>Earlier in the meeting the Committee put on record "that it had had in its work the assistance of a competent and diligent secretariat under the direction of Dr. Victor Hoo, the personal representative of the Secretary-General, and Dr. Alfonso Garcia Robles, principal secretary.  The Committee expressed its deep appreciation of the unremitting and invaluable labors of the Secretariat in organizing and coordinating the Committee's activities, in furnishing research and technical data, in lending assistance at its meetings and in cooperating in the preparation of this Report.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>In a final effort to complete its work before the assigned date of September 1st, the Committee yesterday met in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening.  The third of these meetings which started at 8:00 p.m. lasted until 2:30 a.m. and several members of the Secretariat did not leave the Palais des Nations until 8:00 a.m. this morning.  One or two hours later the staff was again at work preparing copies of the <\/span>Report <\/a>for signing this evening.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>As the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine finished its work it was announced that during the past three months Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵSCOP has received from various people more than 27,000 communications, letters and postcards.<\/p><\/div>\n
