With the officials were two Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA trucks with food and water supplies. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:left;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">After approximately 30 minutes in the camp, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA was told by Israeli Defense Force (IDF) officials that it would not be permitted to unload the much-needed supplies. It then became impossible for the team to continue its mission under those circumstances and they left the camp. <\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial Unicode MS, san-serif;\">In their short time inside, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ officials witnessed a population in need of food and especially water. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">According to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA figures, out of a total population of 14,000 refugees in the camp, some 4,000 have left or been forced out of the camp into the neighboring town and villages. A majority of those remaining in the camp, according to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA, were believed to be women, children and elderly. They have been without any water, food and medical attention for 14 consecutive days. <\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:left;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">In an emergency bulletin issued today, the Food and Agricultural Organization ( <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/www.fao.org\/english\/index.html\" style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">FAO<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">&nbsp;) warned of rising food shortages and malnutrition among Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align:left;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Meanwhile in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/unrwa\/refugees\/wb\/kalandia.html\" style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">the Kalandia refugee camp<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">&nbsp;in the West Bank, the IDF entered Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA&#8217;s local training center and arrested all 24 boarding students. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Asked about the purpose of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ mission into Jenin camp, the Spokesman said it was to assess the humanitarian situation in the camp, although its primary purpose was to deliver much-needed supplies, including water and food. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:11px;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">[&#8230;]<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;padding-top:11px;font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial Unicode MS, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>SECURITY COÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµCIL TO DISCUSS PROPOSED MIDEAST FORCE THIS WEEK<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Asked when the Secretary-General would brief the Security Council on his proposal for an international force in the Middle East, the Spokesman said it would take place either Tuesday or Wednesday. <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Asked if the Secretary-General would be presenting to the Council a resolution along the lines of the one adopted for the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF), the Spokesman said the Secretary-General would be presenting a concept to Council members and wait to see what their reaction to it. <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Asked if there had already been reaction to the proposal, the Spokesman answered that there had not been any formal reaction yet but a reading of newspaper editorials over the weekend show that a debate on the issue is now underway.
