LIAISON OFFICE TO OPEN IN RAMALLAH <br \/>\nAHEAD OF PALESTINIAN ELECTIONS<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\" style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Regarding Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ efforts in the upcoming Palestinian presidential elections, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ expects the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Liaison and Support Unit to open its office in Ramallah the day after tomorrow, and that soon after, a satellite office will open in Gaza.<br \/>\n&#160; <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">The primary function of these offices will be to liaise with International Observer Groups, to ensure that they have access to all relevant information needed for them to work efficiently. <br \/>\n&#160; <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">It will also promote liaison and collaboration among national and international observers.<br \/>\n&#160; <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ officers will act as an interface between the international observers and the Palestinian Central Electoral Commission. <br \/>\n&#160; <\/li>\n<li style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">Asked whether the United Nations would open an office in Jerusalem for the elections, the Spokesman said the United Nations is not involved in the voting in East Jerusalem.
