OCCUPIED PALESTINIAN TERRITORY<\/span><\/strong>
\nToday, the Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, Jamie McGoldrick, and the directors for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA, in the West Bank, called for an immediate halt to the destruction of Palestinian-owned property in East Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDemolitions in East Jerusalem have increased at a staggering pace over the last month, leaving tens of Palestinians displaced and others who have lost their livelihoods overnight,\u201d said Mr. McGoldrick. \u201cThis must stop.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

As of 30 April, 111 Palestinian-owned structures had been destroyed in East Jerusalem. Overall, more Palestinians were displaced in East Jerusalem in the first four months of 2019 than in all of 2018 \u2013 that\u2019s 193 for the past four months, compared to 176 last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

ISRAEL\/PALESTINE<\/span><\/strong>
\nI had been asked a couple of times about the situation of Omar Shaker, the Israel and Palestine Director for Human Rights Watch.<\/span><\/p>\n

I can tell you that we are concerned about the shrinking space for human rights defenders to operate in the occupied Palestinian territory. Israel must allow them to carry out their work without threat or intimidation.<\/span><\/p>\n
