Excellencies, Ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n
President Macron, thank you for hosting this conference.<\/p>\n
We are here to support civilians in Gaza.<\/p>\n
Of course, nothing justifies the abhorrent acts of terror by Hamas in Israel on 7 October which I utterly condemn.<\/p>\n
Israelis and others were brutally killed or abducted \u2013 and I call once again for the unconditional return of all hostages.<\/p>\n
Now civilians in Gaza \u2013 including children and women \u2013 face a never-ending humanitarian nightmare.<\/p>\n
Their neighborhoods wiped out.\u00a0 Their loved ones killed.\u00a0 Bombs raining down, while being denied life\u2019s very basics \u2013 food, water, medicine, electricity.<\/p>\n
Some life-saving aid is beginning to trickle into Gaza.\u00a0 But, let\u2019s face it, it\u2019s a drop in the ocean.<\/p>\n
The needs are enormous.<\/p>\n
We must step up to assist and protect civilians in Gaza.<\/p>\n
That means an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.<\/p>\n
It means ensuring full respect of international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n
It means protecting hospitals, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ facilities, shelters, and schools.<\/p>\n
It means unfettered, safe, and sustained access to bring in and distribute supplies at much greater scale, volume, and frequency \u2013 including fuel.<\/p>\n
And it means investing in the $1.2 billion humanitarian appeal that the United Nations has just launched to help the people of Gaza.<\/p>\n
I urge your support.<\/p>\n
Now is the time for concrete action.<\/p>\n
Together, we can help ease this terrible human suffering.<\/p>\n
We can help civilians in Gaza see at last, and at the very least, a glimmer of hope \u2013 a sign of solidarity \u2013 and a signal that the world sees their plight and cares enough to act.<\/p>\n
