Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, briefed the delegation about the situation in the Gaza Strip and the humanitarian response. He then crossed the border (without the delegation) into Gaza.<\/li>\n<li>As of 11 December, the total number of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA colleagues killed since the beginning of hostilities is 134.<\/li>\n<li>Since 7 October,\u00a0<strong>up to 1.9 million people<\/strong>\u00a0(or over 85 per cent of the population) have been displaced across the Gaza Strip, some multiple times. Families are forced to move repeatedly in search of safety.<\/li>\n<li>As of 11 December,\u00a0<strong>nearly 1.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs)<\/strong>\u00a0were sheltering in\u00a0<strong>155 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA facilities\u00a0<\/strong>across all five governorates of the Gaza Strip, including in the North and Gaza City. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA shelter information is updated daily to the extent possible; the information for north Gaza and Gaza City was last updated 12 October due to access constraints and security situation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>More than 1.1 million IDPs are sheltering in 98 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA facilities in the Middle, Khan Younis and Rafah areas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload alignnone wp-image-291556\" src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-300x223.png\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-300x223.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27412%27%20height%3D%27306%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20412%20306%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27412%27%20height%3D%27306%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-200x149.png 200w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-400x298.png 400w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2-600x447.png 600w, https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Capture2.png 634w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-orig-sizes=\"(max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"blue-background\"><strong>Overall Situation\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gray-background\"><strong>The Gaza Strip<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, between 7 October and the afternoon of 11 December, 18,205 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, about 70 per cent of whom are reported to be women and children, and over 49,645 have reportedly been injured.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gray-background\"><strong>The West Bank<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to OCHA, 265 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli Security Forces (ISF) in the West Bank, including 69 children. In addition, eight Palestinians, including one child, have been killed by Israeli settlers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"blue-background\"><strong>Humanitarian Access, Protection of Civilians\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gray-background\"><strong>The Gaza Strip<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA is verifying reports of incidents affecting Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA facilities on 11 December.<\/li>\n<li>On 10 December the following incidents have been\u00a0<strong>reported impacting Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA installations and the IDPs sheltering there<\/strong>. \u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA is verifying reports. Initial reports indicate that in an incident at one school in Beit Lahiya at least one IDP was killed and at least 20 more were injured,\u00a0<strong>while the rest of the 6,000 IDPs sheltering there were reportedly forced to evacuate.\u00a0<\/strong>Men were forced to strip down to their underwear and they were detained.\u00a0<strong>Israeli Forces reportedly set the school on fire<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>At a training centre in Khan Younis an IDP was injured by a bullet; and two health centres in Jabalia were impacted \u2013 in one, IDPs suffered from smoke inhalation; and at the other, hosting around 7,000 people, two people were reportedly shot outside the facilities when they attempted to leave the shelter, which was directly struck multiple times.<\/li>\n<li><strong>154 incidents impacting Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA premises<\/strong>\u00a0and the people inside them have been reported since the beginning of the hostilities (some with multiple incidents impacting the same location), including at least 12 incidents of military use and\/or interference at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA premises. 43 different Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA installations were directly hit and 60 different installations sustained collateral damage.<\/li>\n<li>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA estimates that in total\u00a0<strong>at least 287 internally displaced people (IDPs) sheltering in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA shelters have been killed<\/strong>\u00a0and at least\u00a0<strong>997 injured since the start of the hostilities<\/strong>. Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA is verifying the number of casualties caused by\u00a0incidents that impacted its installations, and notes that these figures do not include some reported casualties where the number of injuries could not be determined.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"blue-background\"><strong>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA Response \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gray-background\"><strong>The Gaza Strip\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA Shelters\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In total, nearly 1.3 million displaced people are now sheltering in 155 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA installations.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The average number of IDPs in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA shelters located in middle and southern areas is 11,480, more than four times their capacity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Health\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Eight (out of 22) Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA health centres are still operational in the Middle and Southern areas, recording\u00a0<strong>9,487 patients visits on 10 December,<\/strong>\u00a0including Palestine Refugees and non-refugees.<\/li>\n<li>Midwives are providing care for post-natal and high-risk pregnant women at the eight operational health centres. There are an estimated 50,000 pregnant women in Gaza, with more than 180 giving birth every day.\u00a0<strong>A total of 121 post-natal and high-risk pregnancy cases were attended to at health centres.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA continued to provide health care to IDPs at shelters through\u00a0<\/strong><strong>97 medical teams. 446 health workers attended to a total of\u00a014,008 patients.\u00a0<\/strong>Each team is composed of 1-2 doctors and a nurse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Psychosocial support (PSS)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>On December 11<\/strong>, a total of\u00a0<strong>697 individual PSS<\/strong>\u00a0consultations were conducted in Rafah and Khan Younis.\u00a0 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA teams provided psychosocial first aid and other specialized protection services to IDPs.\u00a0<strong>Since 7 October, 99,223 IDPs people have been reached.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Psychosocial support (PSS) efforts continued to be delivered in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA shelters by a team\u00a0<strong>of 284 school counselors reaching 40,124 IDPs in shelters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Food Security<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA continued to\u00a0<strong>distribute flour<\/strong>\u00a0outside of shelters in southern governorates.\u00a0<strong>A total of 74,947<\/strong><strong>\u00a0families have been reached so far.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>On 11 December, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµRWA continued to operate nine water wells pumping about 10,000 cubic meters to provide potable and domestic water.\u00a0<\/strong>Potable water trucking operations to the shelters in Rafah and Khan Younis areas continue.<\/li>\n<li>Shelters in Rafah and the Middle areas continued to receive potable water through tankers from the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility.<\/li>\n<li>Overcrowding continues to put stress on IDP shelter sanitation services.
