AMMAN,<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Foreign Minister <\/span>Jos<\/span>\u00e9 Manuel Albares has visited an Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA school at a camp for Palestine Refugees in Jordan, meeting with students and staff and underlining the Agency\u2019s vital work for millions of families across the region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Minis<\/span>ter Albares was welcomed last Wednesday at the Talbieh Camp school by Olaf Becker, Director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA Affairs in Jordan, and accompanied by Miguel de Lucas Gonzalez, Spanish Ambassador to Jordan, and a delegation from Madrid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In addition to meeting with\u00a0<\/span>Palestine Refugee students and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA education staff at the school \u2013 which has a total of 1,100 pupils studying in two shifts \u2013 the Spanish delegation spoke with Palestine Refugees from Syria who have received legal assistance from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA\u2019s work is vital for millions of Palestinian families in the region and for providing humanitarian aid in Gaza. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA can count on the full support of Spain,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said Minister Albares.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The<\/span>\u00a0Government of Spain has reaffirmed its strong commitment to support Palestine Refugees politically and financially via Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA. In 2023, Spain made a significant contribution of EUR 5.75 million to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA\u2019s work in Jordan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cIn this incredibly challenging time, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA is\u00a0<\/span>very\u00a0grateful<\/span>\u00a0to the Foreign\u00a0<\/span>Minister and Spain for their steadfast political and financial support and for putting our joint humanitarian values first,\u201d said Becker.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c<\/span>It is donors such as Spain that allow Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA to continue providing vital services such as education to over 100,000 children and medical consultations to almost 1,000,000 Palestine Refugees in Jordan.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In Jordan s<\/span>pecifically, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has been instrumental in supporting early detection of disability, provision of legal assistance, more efficient solid waste management and greening initiatives within Jordan’s camps for Palestine Refugees, allocating EUR 1 million annually towards initiatives that directly benefit the Palestine Refugee community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Under Phase III of the AECID project, notable achievements have been made in the realm of legal aid provision, including<\/span>\u00a0legal counselling, engagement of Palestine Refugees in community-based activities aimed at promoting resilience and empowerment, and assistance for early development and children with disabilities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

T<\/span>he partnership between Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA and Spain has many layers. In 2023, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA Spanish National Committee raised EUR 11.17 million, including EUR 6.5 million for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA\u2019s core Programme Budget. Of this, EUR 2.4 million came from individual donations, bolstered by the public response to the war in Gaza.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The<\/span>\u00a0partnership also extends to Spanish regional governments and municipalities, with the Barcelona City Council supporting early development of children with disabilities, and the Basque Country supporting the strategic development of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA\u2019s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
