{"id":304265,"date":"2024-12-13T11:44:31","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T16:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=304265"},"modified":"2024-12-16T12:04:50","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T17:04:50","slug":"undp-statement-13dec24","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/undp-statement-13dec24\/","title":{"rendered":"Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP Statement on media reports related to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>13 December 2024<\/p>\n<p>In response to recent media reports on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Development Programme (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP)\u2019s role in Gaza, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP emphasises that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA) is indispensable and irreplaceable.<\/p>\n<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP further reaffirms the\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/sg-statement-28oct24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/a><\/em>\u00a0that \u201cÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA is the principal means by which essential assistance is supplied to Palestine refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. There is no alternative to Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This position has also been emphasised in numerous public statements including most recently in a statement by the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/statement-by-iasc-01nov24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inter-Agency Standing Committee Principals<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP\u2019s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People is mandated by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly to work across the occupied Palestinian territory \u201cto improve the economic and social conditions of the Palestinian people by identifying their social and economic needs and by establishing concrete projects to that end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Based on our presence and experience, we are currently contributing to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ\u2019s humanitarian response in Gaza to address critical needs in close coordination with our partners and sister Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies, including Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA, in line with our mandate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; 13 December 2024 In response to recent media reports on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Development Programme (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP)\u2019s role in Gaza, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵDP emphasises that the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA) is indispensable and irreplaceable.
