{"id":306329,"date":"2025-03-18T12:15:30","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=306329"},"modified":"2025-03-18T12:15:30","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:15:30","slug":"statement-unrwa-commissioner-general-philippe-lazzarini-at-the-brussels-conference-on-syria","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/statement-unrwa-commissioner-general-philippe-lazzarini-at-the-brussels-conference-on-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"Statement: Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini at the Brussels Conference on Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"blue-with-border-left\"><strong><em>17 March 2025, Brussels<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Excellencies,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the future of Syria takes shape, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA \u2013 the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees \u2013 remains a lifeline for a highly vulnerable community: Palestine Refugees in Syria, and those who fled to Jordan and Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>In an inclusive Syria, the rights of all people, including Palestine Refugees, must be protected.<\/p>\n<p>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA stands ready to work with Syrian authorities and international partners to protect Palestine Refugees\u2019 rights; enhance access to basic services; and promote better socioeconomic inclusion, in support of peace and stability.<\/p>\n<p>The Agency provides essential, public-like services to more than\u00a0<strong>400,000\u00a0<\/strong>registered Palestine Refugees in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>More than<strong>\u00a090 per cent\u00a0<\/strong>live under the poverty line, relying on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA\u2019s emergency cash assistance to meet basic needs.<\/p>\n<p>Over\u00a0<strong>50,000\u00a0<\/strong>girls and boys receive education in\u00a0<strong>more than 100<\/strong>\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA schools.<\/p>\n<p>Our health teams provided\u00a0<strong>more than a million<\/strong>\u00a0primary healthcare consultations last year, in 22 health facilities and two mobile clinics.<\/p>\n<p>To maintain our current services and accompany the political transition in Syria, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA requires an urgent infusion of funding as well as clarity and a clear delineation of its role within a time-bound political process that addresses the question of Palestine.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>17 March 2025, Brussels Excellencies, As the future of Syria takes shape, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA \u2013 the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees \u2013 remains a lifeline for a highly vulnerable community: Palestine Refugees in Syria, and those who fled to Jordan and Lebanon.
