{"id":309226,"date":"2025-07-17T15:06:59","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T19:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=309226"},"modified":"2025-07-22T15:07:48","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T19:07:48","slug":"unrwa-on-proposed-amendment-to-israeli-anti-unrwa-legislation","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/unrwa-on-proposed-amendment-to-israeli-anti-unrwa-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA: On proposed amendment to Israeli anti-Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>17 July 2025<\/p>\n<p><strong>AMMAN\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Last week, a proposed amendment to the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) laws against Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA was published.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment proposed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure contains two key proposals against Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly targeting East Jerusalem:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prohibiting service providers from supplying Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA installations with water and electricity.<\/li>\n<li>Seizing of land on which the West Bank Field Office in Sheikh Jarrah and the Kalandia Training Centre near Qalandiya Camp are located. If implemented, this would allow for the confiscation of the land without any additional legal proceedings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA installations are United Nations premises and are protected by the privileges and immunities of the United Nations. The legislative action being taken against Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA and its presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, is unprecedented and violates Israel\u2019s obligations as a United Nations member state under the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Charter.<\/p>\n<p>This amendment threatens to further debilitate Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA&#8217;s operations in the West Bank, after the forced closure of six of the Agency\u2019s schools in East Jerusalem two months ago.
