OCHA says\u00a0the humanitarian community\u00a0in Gaza\u00a0is providing emergency response\u00a0as an ongoing rainstorm\u00a0causes\u00a0war-damaged\u00a0buildings\u00a0to collapse,\u00a0floods\u00a0tents\u00a0and\u00a0soaks\u00a0people\u2019s belongings.<\/p>\n
Over the past 24 hours, weather conditions\u00a0have\u00a0led to further casualties and increased health risks,\u00a0including hypothermia among babies and illnesses linked to overflowing sewage.<\/p>\n
To\u00a0respond swiftly\u00a0to flood\u00a0alerts,\u00a0a system\u00a0brings\u00a0together Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies and non-governmental organizations\u00a0to distribute tents, tarpaulins, warm clothes,\u00a0blankets\u00a0and dignity kits across Gaza.\u00a0The\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and its partners\u00a0are also mobilizing heavy equipment to pump\u00a0overflowing\u00a0sewage away from residential areas.<\/p>\n
Separately, humanitarian teams are\u00a0helping\u00a0hundreds\u00a0of people newly displaced from the \u00a0neighbourhood\u00a0of\u00a0At\u00a0Tufah\u00a0in\u00a0Gaza\u00a0city, where military operations have\u00a0forced\u00a0many from\u00a0their homes.\u00a0People who\u00a0remain\u00a0in or have returned to\u00a0As\u00a0Sanafour\u00a0area of the\u00a0neighbourhood,\u00a0typically because of lack of space elsewhere,\u00a0report\u00a0significant challenges in accessing water,\u00a0food\u00a0and basic services.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, other\u00a0relief operations under the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ-coordinated humanitarian plan for the ceasefire continue.<\/p>\n
Between 23 and 26 December,\u00a0partners\u00a0leading on water, sanitation and hygiene\u00a0dispatched\u00a0tens of thousands of\u00a0dignity kits,\u00a0hygiene kits\u00a0and\u00a0bottles of shampoo\u00a0across Gaza\u00a0for some\u00a0150,000\u00a0people in need.<\/p>\n
As of yesterday, partners working to mitigate food insecurity have reached more than one million people \u2013 half of Gaza\u2019s population \u2013 through 60 distribution points with the monthly general food assistance for December. In parallel, to support local production and reduce aid dependency, they have distributed veterinary kits and animal feed to more than 2,000 families with livestock between 9 and 26 December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
