Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, the Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory,\u00a0is on a\u00a0two-day visit to Gaza\u00a0Strip.<\/p>\n
In Deir al Balah, he met with\u00a0Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ agencies and partners to discuss the challenges to humanitarian access and delivery they continue to face. He heard their concerns about continued security incidents near the so-called \u201cYellow Line,\u201d\u00a0which have resulted in civilian casualties.<\/p>\n
South of Gaza city, Dr. Alakbarov visited\u00a0the\u00a0Abu-Jarad dumping site for solid waste and a debris crushing site.\u00a0Humanitarian partners have been using this site to dispose of solid waste given access restrictions to Gaza\u2019s main landfills.\u202fDr. Alakbarov\u00a0also\u00a0went\u00a0to the\u00a0Rafah checkpoint and saw people returning to Gaza.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow, Dr. Alakbarov will visit the field hospital in Al Mawasi, where the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and its partners\u00a0are helping patients to go to Egypt through the Rafah crossing.<\/p>\n
Overall, since the ceasefire and as of\u00a0this\u00a0Monday, the\u00a0World Health Organization (WHO)\u00a0<\/a><\/em>has\u00a0facilitated\u00a0the evacuation of more than 740 patients – including 432 children \u2013\u00a0through the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings.\u00a0However,\u00a018,500\u00a0patients \u2013\u00a0including 4,000 children \u2013 still urgently need to be medically evacuated for specialized\u00a0treatment\u00a0unavailable in Gaza.<\/p>\n To reduce reliance on evacuations,\u00a0WHO continues\u00a0to\u00a0call for the rehabilitation and rebuilding of Gaza\u2019s health system, including\u00a0allowing more medical supplies in,\u00a0restoring damaged\u00a0facilities\u00a0and expanding\u00a0essential\u00a0services.\u00a0It also urges reopening medical referrals to the West\u00a0Bank,\u00a0including East Jerusalem; \u00a0greater acceptance of patients by Member States for treatment abroad; and ensuring patients\u00a0are able to\u00a0return to Gaza after their treatments are completed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 25 February 2026 Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, the Deputy Special Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory,\u00a0is on a\u00a0two-day visit to Gaza\u00a0Strip.
