OCHA and its humanitarian partners continue to respond to people\u2019s needs in Gaza despite the escalating situation in the region.<\/p>\n
Following the closure of all crossings into Gaza as well as the suspension of all coordinated movements on Saturday, the Israeli authorities today reopened Kerem Shalom crossing for the entry of 500,000 litres of fuel and humanitarian assistance arriving through Israel and Egypt.<\/p>\n
Approximately\u00a0300,000\u00a0litres\u00a0of fuel per day are\u00a0required\u00a0to\u00a0maintain\u00a0the\u00a0critical\u00a0humanitarian operations in Gaza, so it is\u00a0essential\u00a0that fuel continues to enter consistently\u00a0until\u00a0longer lasting solutions\u00a0to supply Gaza with power\u00a0are\u00a0secured.<\/p>\n
The Rafah and Zikim crossings remain closed and international humanitarian staff rotations are still suspended. Meanwhile, coordinated movements within Gaza have also resumed.<\/p>\n
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ and its partners\u00a0reiterate\u00a0that\u00a0more\u00a0crossings must be open to enable the\u00a0scale\u00a0up\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0response\u00a0to meet\u00a0the\u00a0immense\u00a0needs\u00a0of people\u00a0in the Strip.\u00a0Supplies must\u00a0also\u00a0enter\u00a0in a predictable and sustained manner.<\/p>\n
Shelter remains a critical need for most\u00a0people, who\u00a0remain displaced after more than two years of war. Over the past week, our partners distributed shelter\u00a0assistance, including tarpaulins, bed sheets, mattresses, blankets, winter\u00a0clothes\u00a0and kitchen essentials to more than 1,600 families.<\/p>\n
Partners also reached nearly 6,700 people with services last week, including psychosocial support, legal assistance and explosive risk education. Partners supporting child protection interventions delivered psychosocial support and recreational activities related to Ramadan to some 8,000 children.<\/p>\n
Turning to the West Bank, Israeli forces continued the closure of most checkpoints. These measures severely curtail the freedom of movement of Palestinians and impact their ability to access services and livelihoods. They also impact the ability of humanitarian partners to deliver assistance and conduct their operations.<\/p>\n
OCHA reported that yesterday, Israeli settlers killed two Palestinians and injured three other Palestinians, including two children, while raiding the village of Qaryut in Nablus. The injured were transported to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
OCHA stresses once again that Palestinians in the West Bank must be protected\u00a0and that perpetrators of violence must be held accountable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
