The <\/span>Chair of the <\/span>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ <\/span>Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People<\/span> Mr. <\/span>Cheikh Niang (Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations in New York)<\/span> will <\/span>be in (<\/span>virtual<\/span>)<\/span> conversation with Mr. Matthias Schmale, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA Director of Operations in Gaza<\/span>,<\/span> on the topic \u201cThe COVID-19 <\/span>pandemic <\/span>in <\/span>Gaza <\/span>and <\/span>ways to mitigate its impact on Palestine refugees<\/span>\u201d. The <\/span>conversation<\/span> will address the recent and current developments in the occupied Gaza Strip during the Global Coronavirus Pandemic<\/span>,<\/span> the <\/span>Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA <\/span>assistance to Palestine refugees in the Gaza Strip<\/span>,<\/span> and the need for continued international resolve to support the Agency including with emergency funding<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During <\/span>his <\/span>more than 24 years of professional experience in international humanitarian and development organizations, <\/span>Mr. Schmale<\/span> has held numerous senior management positions<\/span>; he <\/span>served<\/span> in<\/span> the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the British Red Cross, and <\/span>the <\/span>International Save the Children Alliance. For Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵRWA<\/span>,<\/span> he has served as <\/span>the <\/span>director for Lebanon, for Syria, and for its Representative Office in New York<\/span>. In October 2<\/span>017, he <\/span>w<\/span>as <\/span>appointed as Director of Field Operations in Gaza. <\/span>Mr.<\/span> Schmale holds a PhD in development economics from the Free University in Berlin, Germany.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
