International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual United Nations International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East<\/u><\/strong> will be held virtually<\/u><\/strong> this year on Tuesday, 8 December [from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. EST]<\/u><\/strong> and Wednesday, 9 December [from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST]<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Organized by the United Nations Department for Global Communications, in the context of its special information programme on the question of Palestine, these annual events aim to bring together journalists, media experts, think tanks, diplomats and members of academia from Israel, Palestine, wider Middle East, Europe, the United States and other parts of the world to discuss media related issues and trends connected to the Israel-Palestine conflict. They also strive to sensitize public opinion to the question of Palestine and promote a peaceful settlement to the Israel-Palestine conflict.<\/p>\n

This year, the two panel discussions will focus on the following themes: – \u201cThe Israel-Palestine conflict and challenges of the new decade\u201d (on 8 December)<\/u> and – \u201cA tale of two narratives: misinformation and disinformation\u201d (on 9 December)<\/u>. The panelists include a number of active and former diplomats and politicians, seasoned journalists, members of academia and media experts. Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Ms. Melissa Fleming, who will be opening the seminar and moderating the first panel discussion, is also expected to read out a message of the United Nations Secretary-General addressed to the seminar participants<\/p>\n

The two-day event will be hosted on http:\/\/webtv.un.org\/ <\/strong><\/a>and will stream LIVE on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Web TV\u2019s Facebook<\/a> and Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n
