The\u202fÄ¢¹½ÊÓƵ Palestinian Rights Committee<\/a>\u202fis organizing\u00a0the Virtual Event on \u201cSupporting Human Rights Defenders in the Occupied Palestinian Territory:\u00a0Reality, Challenges, and Obligations\u201d, which will be\u00a0livestreamed on Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Web TV.<\/p>\n

The event will be chaired by Amb. Syed Mohamad Hasrin Aidid, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations, and organized as a panel of speakers including Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Wessam<\/span>\u00a0Ahmad<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>Director of the Applied Center for International\u00a0<\/span>Law,\u00a0<\/span>Al-Haq<\/span>)<\/span>, M<\/span>r<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Saleh Higazi<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>Head of Jerusalem Office<\/span>, Amnesty International),<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Mr. Michael\u00a0<\/span>Sfard<\/span>\u00a0(Israeli Human Rights Lawyer) and Mr. Omar Shakir (Israel and Palestine Director, Human Rights Watch).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0event\u00a0aims\u00a0to\u00a0shed light on the implications of the Israeli decision\u00a0of 22 October 2021 to designate six\u00a0Palestinian human rights and humanitarian NGOs as \u201cterrorist organizations\u201d\u00a0and more broadly on the work of civil society organizations and human rights defenders in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and to underline the role and responsibilities of the international community in the context of the prevailing challenges and shrinking space for Palestinian human rights defenders.<\/p>\n

All Member States are invited to participate. The public and media\u00a0are invited to follow the event\u00a0via Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ TV\u00a0and pose questions\u00a0via email\u00a0and\/or the Committee social media channels.<\/p>\n
