Islam Alatrash is an investigative journalist based in Tripoli, Libya. He works as a senior reporter for Deutsche Welle and has contributed to Reuters, The New York Times, Al Jazeera English, The Guardian, and The National. His work focuses on migration, human rights, environmental issues, climate change, gender, and the social impact of conflict in Libya and across the Mediterranean. His combines field investigation, data, photography, and video storytelling, with a particular focus on underreported communities and cross-border issues. Islam won the Mediterranean Award, an Earth Journalism Network award, and an ICFJ Forum Award. He holds a journalism degree from the University of Misrata and a diploma in Conflict and Peacebuilding from the University of Amsterdam.
