Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Women has commended the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) for its progress in achieving gender equality in 2020.
The department is the first Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ entity to meet or exceed the requirements of all applicable performance indicators under the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ System-wide Action Plan (Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-SWAP)?on?Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
Since its inception in 2012,?the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-SWAP has facilitated gender mainstreaming through an accountability framework on policy, programme delivery, financial and human resources, communication and coordination.?
In 2020, 70?Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ entities reported on Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-SWAP indicators, up from 55 in 2012.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Women lauded DPPA¡¯s ¡°perseverance and vigor?in upholding the important work on gender equality and the empowerment of women while facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.¡±
In 2020, DPPA expanded its reach and ensured inclusivity by exploring new pathways for participation through digital inclusion strategies and virtual consultations and engagement. These efforts continue in 2021; DPPA¡¯s Policy and Mediation Division and INGO Build UP just concluded the second iteration of an online dialogue course aimed at enhancing women¡¯s inclusion in peace processes via digital technologies.
Going forward, DPPA will continue to support context-specific high-level strategy meetings to support inclusive peace processes.
¡°Such meetings help identify key actions and approaches to enhance Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ support for gender inclusion in ongoing peacemaking,¡± said Senior Gender and Political Adviser Lone Jessen.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Women highlighted DPPA-DPO¡¯s efforts at work-life balance and its staff-driven ¡°Building our Pillar¡± programme to foster inclusion and organizational culture change.
Laura Bologna, DPPA's Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-SWAP focal point, stressed that it is crucial for DPPA staff to make full use of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-SWAP as a tool to mainstream and integrate gender in all aspects of the department¡¯s mandate.
