Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Postal Administration has?issued a three-stamp mini-sheet for the recent?Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Conference on the Least Developed Countries.
The category of least developed countries?was established by the General Assembly for the purpose of attracting special international support for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the United Nations family.
The current list?includes 46 countries:?33 in Africa, 12 in Asia and the Pacific, and 1 in Latin America. Over 1 billion people live in these countries ¨C about 13 per cent of the world population ¨C but their economies account for less than 2 per cent of world GDP and less than 1 per cent of global trade.
The mission of the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS) is to raise awareness of the economic, social, and environmental potential that exists in these countries and to ensure that the pressing needs of the 1.1 billion people who live in them remain high on the international agenda.
The stamp sheets are in the denomination of $1.45, CHF 2,30, and € 1,90. They?are consecutively numbered 1 through 16,000, so each one is unique.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵPA collaborated with OHRLLS for this project and the design of the stamp sheet.
