At the start of the International Year of Freshwater in February 2003, (IANWGE) decided to establish an Interagency Gender and Water Task Force and invited (DESA) to serve as Task Manager. It was also agreed to invite a few non-Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ entities to be part of the Task Force.
The first meeting of the Interagency Gender and Water Task Force was held on 10 September 2003. Subsequent meetings have been held about twice a year. Informal consultations are held among core members on specific tasks, such as inputs to the and the and . Frequent contact by email with enables the Task Force to coordinate its activities and consult on its programme of work.
The meeting of in late 2004 agreed that the Task Force would be one of its sub-programmes and requested it to take responsibility for the gender component of . The Task Force reports to IANGWE at its spring session and to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ-Water at its semi-annual sessions.
