Joint Government-United Nations Meeting on Myanmar's LDC Graduation - 6 January 2021

On January 6, 2021, the government of Myanmar and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Resident Coordinator¡¯s office co-hosted a joint meeting on Myanmar¡¯s LDC Graduation Process.  Issues addressed included the graduation process and preparatory periods, impacts of graduation, vulnerabilities, smooth transition strategy, COVID-19 impacts and areas where support is required.   The high-level of representation of the Myanmar government, which included H.E. U Soe Win, Minister of Planning Finance and Industry, deputy ministers and the Permanent Representatives to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ in New York and Geneva, sends a positive signal in terms of the country¡¯s commitment to navigating the graduation process and, if recommended for graduation, ensuring a smooth transition out of the LDC category.  The meeting was chaired by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Resident coordinator.  Other participants from the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ included Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµDESA, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµCTAD, OHRLLS, ESCAP, members of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ country team and the Resident Coordinator¡¯s Office. Two CDP members participated as observers.
