STATEMENT attributable to the Spokesman for the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly on the situation in Jerusalem
Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµITED NATIONS, 22 September 2015 — The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly is closely following the recent events in Jerusalem.  He echoes the grave concerns expressed by the Security Council, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Secretary-General, and the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process regarding the latest escalation in tensions surrounding the Haram Al-Sharif.
The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly urges all concerned to stay calm and restrain from provocative actions, incitements and inflammatory rhetoric. He stresses the responsibilities of all concerned to prevent escalation and defuse tension, especially during the period of the Jewish High Holy Days and ahead of the Muslim Eid al-Adha. He stresses the importance of upholding unchanged the historic status quo at the Holy Sites, including the Haram Al-Sharif, in words and in practice.
