The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly H.E. Mogens Lykketoft met with group of Permanent Representatives to exchange ideas and discuss ethics at the United Nations.
The diplomats from Argentina,  Belgium, Brazil, Costa Rica, Finland, Germany, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Panama, Palau, Singapore and Tanzania encouraged the President to set a new standard for ethical behaviour and transparency during his year in office.
Mr. Lykketoft welcomed the discussion and reiterated that one of his key priorities for this 70th session is to deliver the strongest possible transparency in the way his Office is funded and run. He said he was very aware that member states were keen to see stronger institutional memory and a strong Office of the President of the General Assembly with stable and transparent financing. He expressed concern that without stable funding, some of the smaller nations could struggle to take on the role of Presidency of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly.
