DuringÌý‘International Law Week’, the President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ General Assembly had the pleasure to address the Sixth Committee, as well as the visiting Legal Advisers and members of the International Law Commission. President Lykketoft recognized the importance of their role in the promotion of international law and the rule of law. He also called on all delegations to renew their efforts to agree onÌýa comprehensive convention on international terrorism.
Additionally, the President met with Judge Ronny Abraham,ÌýPresident and Mr. Philippe Couvreur, Registrar of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). During the session of the General Assembly, Mr LykketoftÌýhighlighted the crucial role of the ICJ in advancing the rule of law at the international level.
On Friday Mr. Lykketoft met with Judge Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi, President of the International Criminal Court. During the session of the General Assembly he highlighted the importance of the International Criminal Court as a reference for justice in cases ofÌýgenocide; crimes against humanity and war crimes, and alsoÌýto deter future atrocities.
