The President of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft met with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Addis Ababa today.
Mr Lykketoft outlined his priorities for the 70th session of the General Assembly, commended Ethiopia for is open-door policy on refugees and invited Ethiopia at the highest possible level to attend this session’s three Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ General Assembly High Level Thematic Debates.
Dr Ghebreyesus thanked the President for his visit and congratulated him on organising the debates on Achieving the SDGs, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Peace & Security and Human Rights.
He explained that Ethiopia’s national plan is well aligned with the SDGs. He also spoke of the need to find new approaches to funding humanitarian assistance.
He said Ethiopia is a land of opportunity for people who work hard and that 2.6 million jobs had been created last year. He also stressed that Ethiopia is leading in Africa on energy and infrastructure investments based also on increased domestic savings and an enhanced tax base.
