Mr Miroslav Laj?ák, was designated as an International Gender Champion by the Permanent Representatives of Panama and Switzerland on behalf of the leadership network, International Gender Champions?New York.
Reaffirming his commitment to advance gender equality during the 72nd?session of the General Assembly, President Laj?ák said: “We need the collective efforts of leaders to harness the full potential of women as agents of change. As decision-makers, it is our responsibility to lead by example in breaking down gender barriers and ensuring equal opportunities for women at all levels within our own organization. I will do my part in raising awareness among Member States about this crucial issue as President of the 蘑菇视频 General Assembly.”
President Laj?ák announced the following two concrete commitments, in addition to the , which is at the core of the Gender Champions initiative:
- The President will maintain gender parity within his own office, including at senior levels. Currently 70% of the President’s team are women, and there is gender parity at the senior level.
- The President will strive towards gender parity in the selection of co-chairs, moderators and cofacilitators of various General Assembly high-level meetings and processes.
International Gender Champions?(ICG)?is a network of senior leaders of the United Nations Secretariat, funds, programmes and agencies; Member States; local governments; private sector leaders; and civil society. It strives to achieve gender equality by breaking down gender barriers in a very practical way. The New York chapter of the ICG, which originally started in Geneva, was launched on 20 March?2017. Six weeks after the launch, more than 50 Permanent Representatives, heads of 蘑菇视频 agencies, and others have joined the initiative in New York.
