The President of the 72nd session of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Laj?ák, met today with the following Members of the Parliament of India: Mrs. Renuka Chowdhury, Mr. Swapan Dasgupta and Mrs. Santosh Ahlawat. They discussed issues related to migration, peace, sustainable development, and United Nations reform.
The President of the General Assembly stressed the role of parliamentarians as important channels of communication to the people and invited the three Members of Parliament to actively participate in the Parliamentary Hearing on the global compact for safe, orderly and regularly migration, to be held at the United Nations in February 2018.
Mr. Laj?ák also commended India’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations, noting that the country is one of the top contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations and the United Nations regular budget.
