EMERGENCY SPECIAL SESSION ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON JERUSALEM

• Upon a request from Member States, the President this morning resumed the 37th plenary meeting of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly.
• The Assembly adopted a entitled ¡°Status of Jerusalem¡±, which was tabled by Turkey and Yemen, by a vote of 128 in favour to 9 against with 35 abstentions.
• The Spokesperson was asked whether the President had prevented the Israeli delegation from placing replicas of ancient Jerusalem coins on tables in the General Assembly Hall at today¡¯s meeting. The Spokesperson replied that the President had not been involved with that decision in any way.
• Noting that he did not speak for the Secretariat¡¯s Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM), the Spokesperson shared a passage from DGACM¡¯s for informational purposes, which states, ¡°Only United Nations documents and statements of speakers can be distributed in the Hall before or during a meeting. Any other pertinent materials can be made available in the General Assembly Hall only upon authorization by the Chief of the General Assembly Affairs Branch.¡± The Spokesperson referred further questions to DGACM.

PRESIDENT THANKS COURT FOR EFFORTS IN FORMER YUGOSLAVIA

• Regarding the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the President that, on this day, as the Court wraps up its work, he thanks it for its efforts to bring justice and reconciliation to the Balkans region.

BUDGET COMMITTEE EXPECTED TO WRAP UP WORK TOMORROW

• Asked whether the Fifth Committee would end its work tomorrow, the Spokesperson said that 22 December remained the expected end date, although it was ultimately up to the Fifth Committee to decide when it would stop working for the year.
