PRESIDENT VISITS ROMANIA, DISCUSSES U.N. AGENDA WITH ROMANIAN OFFICIALS

• The President held a number of official meetings today in Bucharest, Romania.
• He discussed multilateralism, the Sustainable Development Goals, migration and Romania¡¯s active engagement at the United Nations with Romania¡¯s President.
• He also met with the Prime Minister of Romania. They spoke about the universality of the Sustainable Development Goals and Romania¡®s participation in this year¡®s High-level Political Forum, which will take place next month here in New York.
• And in a meeting with Romania¡¯s Foreign Minister, the topics of discussion were upcoming items on the General Assembly¡¯s agenda, climate change, and the status of the negotiations on the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.
• The President also received an honorary doctorate degree from the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration of Romania.
• In his remarks there, he said, ¡°Our history books are very clear. They show that the greatest achievements of humanity have come from working together.¡±

PRESIDENT CONVENED 10^TH EMERGENCY SPECIAL SESSION AT MEMBER STATES¡¯ REQUEST

• Asked whether the President had discussed the recently resumed with the Secretary-General, the Spokesperson noted that the President held monthly luncheons with the Secretary-General to discuss a wide range of topics. Readouts were not typically provided for those private meetings.
• Regarding the tenth emergency special session, its resumption had been a matter for Member States. Certain Member States had communicated to the President their wish to see the session resumed, so the President had taken that action at their request.

MEMBER STATES ENGAGING ¡°CONSTRUCTIVELY & ACTIVELY¡± ON G.S.D.M. REPORT

• Responding to questions asked the day before, the Spokesperson said he could now confirm that the Secretary-General¡¯s Global Service Delivery Model (GSDM) report and the related report by the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) were being considered by the General Assembly¡¯s Fifth Committee today.
• At that moment, the Fifth Committee was holding a question and answer session with Member States on these reports.
• Asked for more details, the Spokesperson said he could not anticipate what would be decided, as this process was up to Member States, and the Member States were in closed consultations.
• The Spokesperson added that Member States were engaging ¡°constructively and actively¡± on this matter.
