PRESS BRIEFING BY MONICA GRAYLEY,?SPOKESPERSON FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT MAR?A FERNANDA ESPINOSA

Good afternoon, everyone!

How are you today?

WORLD FOOD DAY

As this is World Food Day, the President of the General Assembly has issued a tweet joining the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in affirming that is possible to achieve #ZeroHunger by 2030 and that this is an opportunity for all to get involved in making it happen. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa says that everyone can help, and one of the ways to get started is to cut back on food waste and donate food items to those who need them the most.

As we know, today, about 820 million people suffer from hunger. Here, there is a gender element as most of them are women.

For many people around the world a simple nutritious meal is beyond reach.

The President believes that we can renew our commitment to ensure that everyone has access to sufficient and nutritious food. Achieving the 2030 Agenda and leaving

no one behind depends on our collective efforts to have food systems that are efficient, inclusive and environmentally sustainable.”

PGA’s AGENDA

Ms. Espinosa is receiving today the Senior Adviser on Policy, Ms. Ana María Menéndez, the Ambassador of Austria, H.E. Mr. Jan Kickert, and will chair the meeting on the Draft Resolution “Chair of Group of 77 for 2019”.
